All of the composers selected are invited to attend workshops with the mentors, to work on a piece of music for performance later in the year.
The 2012 workshops will take place between the 10th-14th July, with two days in the UK followed by three in France. Mentors Philip Grange/Robert Saxton appear, along with Andrew Hanley of Edition Peters and performers from the London Sinfonietta, who will deliver a series of lecture recitals and workshop sessions open for viewing to the public.
In previous years, mentors have included composers Robert Saxton, Daniel D'Adamo, Edwin Roxburgh, Patrick Nunn, and Philippe Boivin. Participants selected for the ICP project were given the opportunity to work with these composers in small groups and on a one-to-one basis to develop a new work.
Alongside this, participants are also invited to attend talks and lectures given by a range of industry professionals. Last year, talks were given by representatives of PRS, BBC Radio 3, and Edition Peters, and in 2010 a panel of members of the music publishing world held a Q&A session for the young composers present.
The opportunity for interaction with performers of the highest standard has also arisen - in both 2011 and 2010, members of the London Sinfonietta gave lecture recitals and held instrumental Q&A's with the composers; a fantastic chance for the participants to learn from specialists in contemporary music performance.
